Safe Motherhood is an NIHR Global Health Research Group. This programme of work covers 4 major themes, which use a wide range of research approaches seeking to improve the quality of antenatal care for women in Malawi and Zambia. The study includes qualitative research to understand the needs of vulnerable populations, such as adolescent mothers, as well as the co-design, implementation, and evaluation of interventions to detect sexually transmitted infections during pregnancy, and to build capacity for institutions and individuals, and use behavioral change approaches to improve the quality of care offered to mothers during pregnancy.
